Overview
At Scotmaps, we offer one of the widest range of note formats available in the world. We have, in conjunction with users of these formats, tweeked each format to be as accurate as we can make them. All our formats can be linked back to our base system which is Std 1-9, and we have written software to convert this to the other formats we offer.
Formats & Styles
We are aware that everyone’s brain works in a different way when it comes to the use and the understanding of route notes. We therefore what to ensure as far as we can, that no competitor is put at a disadvantage when using our notes, by providing them with a format and style they are comfortable with, and within our range, most needs are catered for.
What To Expect
Our notes are made between 2 & 4 weeks before an event (subject to weather and access restrictions) and have a photo of the advised stage start location with a line thereon demarking the start line of the stage as we understand it to be.
Key Information
In the notes, we place junction boxes at the location of these in the notes, along with the distance from this junction to the finish and whether there is a radio point at the junction, as safety is paramount at all times. All the pages for each stage are number and have the note format clearly marked in the top right.
At the bottom right, there is a box which contains the notes from the first line of the next page. We will always endeavour to ensure whenever possible that there are no dangerous hazards as the first call at the top, of a page
Accessibility
We are happy to discuss any particular or special requirements, and in the past have created notes in a Braille style format, as well as being able to provide notes for competitors with dyslexia.
Why Use Scotmaps' Route Notes?
For many years Scotmaps has been producing route notes for the Scottish Rally Championship and South African National Rally Championship.
2024 marks 25 years of continuous supply of notes to the Scottish Rally Championship, a fact we are very proud of.
After issuing a customer survey to our route notes customers on the 2023 Roger Albert Clark Rally, we found that many rated our service highest in the following areas; consistency of notes, Safety Memory Stick, & Digital Download and on event service. Scotmaps take great pride in the no compromise attitude to route noting and the variety of measures in place to ensure that the competitor’s safety is not compromised at any time. One very experience and far travelled competitor, a first-time user of Scotmaps Route Notes stated that the route notes for the Roger Albert Clark Rally;
“…were exceptional, and very, very consistent, to the point we were in the Overall top 10 in our Escort. I look forward to being able to use them again on other events!”
Another competitor, who had not purchased notes from Scotmaps prior to the rally, approached us after the first Leg of the R.A.C., having spoken to fellow competitors and asked if we could produce him a set of notes for the remaining legs of the event. We advised we could, and we worked through what his requirements were and the following morning he collected books for the remaining legs in the note format of his choice. Similarly, an overseas competitor arrived at scrutineering for the R.A.C., expecting to be able to purchase notes there, not realising they had to be purchased in advance. The event organisers contacted us and asked if we could assist, and we did. After a discussion on what the competitor required, we produced for him by the following morning, a full set of notes in an amended variation of one of our 40 formats. Another happy customer!
With 74% of competitors rating the ‘consistency of route notes’ as the most important factor in choosing a route notes supplier Scotmaps have clearly outshone any competitors. A massive 95% of respondents rated Scotmaps as Good or Very Good in route note consistency compared to the nearest competitor who achieved only 71%. 40% of respondents rated the nearest competitor as only Satisfactory in route notes consistency.
